Raised black sill on verge of central reservation invisible to walkers.

Reported via desktop in the Pavement/footpath issue category anonymously at 19:33, Wednesday 16 June 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

This is a crossing point from Freeboard Lane to a public footpath on the north side of A45. Approved crossing by virtue of cetral barrier being divided and offset. Walking partner and I both crossed safely but both failed to see raised black sill rising out of black carriageway margin. Both fell badly. Reason for presence of sill unclear as terminates a few yards to the west. As we fell into central reservation no harm to traffic or to ourselves from traffic but had this occurred in the other direction the fall would have been into the outside lane of the westbound A45 with risk of death and multiple collisions

  • Thank you for your patience whilst our inspector reviewed your report. During the review our inspector doesn’t feel that this is causing any safety concerns at this time and remedial work isn’t required. Due to the location of this crossing point and the frequency its used, we will not be undertaking any improvements just yet. We need to justify the money we would spend on improvements weighing it up with the benefits.

We will continue to review this and will arrange any required work if the situation changes.
