Holes and subsidence at South Avenue, Abingdon
Reported via desktop in the Pavements category by Martin Buckland at 09:27, Monday 10 May 2021
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2715973.
Over the last several years the pavement and grass verge by the post box at the junction of South Avenue and Holland Rod have subsided and a deep hole appeared. This has been filled several times but then re-appears which suggests there is, literally, an underlying problem, possible a washout from a leaking water pipe or drain.
There is no excavated earth as would be expected if it was an animal hole. The present holes are in the grass right in front of the post box and are a considerable injury hazard, especially at night.
In the photo the larger hole is the brown patch in front of the post box and the smaller one in the green patch bottom left of the picture.
Thank you for your enquiry. This issue has been passed onto the relevant team for investigation.

White paint has been sprayed around both holes but nothing more - they have not been temporarily covered with a board.
