Damaged green Virgin junction box next to 4 Ashburton Road

Reported via desktop anonymously at 07:36, Wed 5 May 2021

Sent to Leicestershire County Council and North West Leicestershire District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2707179.

The door on this box has been damaged for a number of years. At its best best it has been held on with duct tape. It is now completely unattached and frequently lying flat on the pavement. It attracts vandalism in this state and since it is at the edge of my property I am not happy about this. I cannot believe that the engineers who visit it from time to time have not reported it.

Updates

  • After being informed that I would need to contact 'Virgin' myself (as the council couldn't/wouldn't do so) I did as suggested. Virgin have secured an orange plastic fence around the box and put more tape on the damaged door to keep it closed. However no actual repairs have been made to the junction box, it is still an eyesore and will attract vandalism/ litter.

  • Now in a worse state than when first reported. Door is completely detached from the box and just leaning against it. Potentially a hazard for people with disabilities if it falls.

  • Door now fixed to cabinet with yet more duct tape. Experience tells us that this will last no longer than the numerous times it has been taped before. It is unsightly, potentially dangerous and attracts litter/vandalism. I have contacted Virgin several times but the cabinet is still in the same state it was in at least 5 years ago (possibly longer).

  • Finally replaced after being reported on Wed 5 May 2021 but being damaged for years prior to that. Well done 'Virgin'.
