I am writing to you with the hope that you can help or support your local Counsellors in their quest to obtain funds from the government to install a storm drain into the road near where I live. On Thursday 28th June my house, along with 6 other neighbouring properties were flooded. Needless to say the stress and upset this has caused everyone, as well as the astronomical increase in our next insurance premiums. Three of the properties flooded are council cottages and I believe the cost to refurbish these properties would out way the cost of what a storm drain would have incurred. The problem has been on going since 1962. I believe other residents have been flooded at least 3 other times and have spoken to the Council and Northubrian Water (who are aware of the problem as they have fitted flood doors to the front and back of two properties) with no satisfactory outcome. Surely 7 properties flooded, including pensioners cottages makes for some urgency. The present drains can cope with normal rainfall, but storm rainfall they cannot. Due to global warming I believe this problem will arise more often. I appreciate that we are not the only area that has been flooded but when we have been informed that plans were drawn up 2 years ago, but not put into fruition. I do feel quite angry and frustrated that the problem could have been averted. I would appreciate your help and a reply in due course.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Hedley (Mrs)

The problem is not fixed as yet. I have e-mailed Northumbrian Water, my local MP and visited my local councillor at a surgery on two occasions. I believe a task group has been appointed to research the areas in North Tyneside affected by flooding. I hope the problem is rectified soon with an additional storm drain inserted into the road where I live. This would stop the stress neighbours and my self feel when heavy rain is forecast

Myself and neighbours were told by the North Tyneside Council the flooding in our area should be dealt with by Northumbria Water as there was sewage in the flood water, after a meeting with Northumbrian Water this is not the case (Yes if there is sewage in the water it is their problem, but apparently we have to be flooded numerous times and storm flooding has to have be certain category "statistics". Therefore it appears the flooding problem is back with North Tyneside Council. As yet we have still had no response as to who will take on the task of inserting a storm drain into the road where we live.

No the problem still remains. It appears the North Tyneside Council and Northumbrian Water do not want to take responsibility for the flood area. We are now being passed to Capita Symonds a private Company who took over Surface Water Management for the council on the 1st November. We await the report from this company as to what will happen.

The residents of the flood are disappointed with the Council and Northumbria Water as they do not appear to wish to help in any way, and now the problem has been passed to a surplus water management company. Lets put it this way, if the problem happens again. I will seek legal advice because after the last flood I do not feel comfortable in my own home in case it happens again. I could understand if it was a one off flood, but for neighbours to have been flooded 3 times before, a solution needs to be put in to action. The weather is not getting any better. This questionnaire will carry on for years.
