Something is wrong with the road and is causing the houses to suffer from Building vibration

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 05:23, Tue 9 March 2021

Sent to Norfolk County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2595963.

There is something wrong with the main road that runs along Wadyngstow House and Fen Cottage that causes the houses to shake and suffer building vibration when the lorries and tractors hit a particular point of the road. The shaking is so bad that pictures have been bounced off the walls and, ornaments have been shaken from shelves. At night when lorries or tractors drive past the bed moves, shaking and waking me up. You can feel the floor shake during the day and the building move. My neighbor over the road is suffering the same to her property. A man from anglia water that was out to inspect the vacuum pump thing, was talking to me as i was asking him if it could be due to one of their drains under the road, he was stood on top of one of the drain lids on the pavement when a lorry went past and he exclaimed that he felt the lid lift up, he stated he would flag it up to the water board, he also suggested that there may be an old brick culvert under the road that when the lorries or tractors hit the area over it with the thud they do that it sent out the shockwave that caused the building vibrations etc. . My neighbors wall has now been shaken so it cracks and I have noticed that cracking has appeared to the front of my house. Both our houses are relatively old, but neighbors in the new build terraces have commented on suffering the same disturbance. You can literally hear the lorries hit the point in the road and they clunk down as though having gone over a large bump and the floors of our property are hit by the resulting thump, shaking the floors, doors, windows and furniture to move, and rattle. . Upstairs it feels as though the whole house moves and it the bed does move and bounce. . My elderly mother staying here one night was terrified as a large vehicle thundered past, waking her up and shaking the house and bed, she thought we were having an earth quake. Which we were not it was yet another ground movement caused by the large moving vehicle hitting a particular point in the road sending what is akin to a shock wave along/under the ground to our homes.

The road itself is now very badly cracked with large cracks going right across the road from fen cottage to my property and also all along the middle of the road running along my home. It is not simply a matter of re tarmacking - something under the road is causing the shaking and building vibration whenever the lorries and tractors which use the main road, thunder past. and hit that particular point on the road, sending out a shock wave that is akin to an earth tremor that hits our homes resulting in the building vibration and movement of our properties and is obviously causing structural damage of some kind to our homes as is evident by the cracks that have appeared to the exterior walls and also to the wall of my neighbor.

I am aware that it has been previously reported to highways and I myself have done so but no one has contacted us or been to talk to us. Now cracks are appearing and its apparent that damage is being done to our building from the road.

What can we do to actually get highways to listen to our concerns and actually take it seriously as its damaging our home, disturbing our sleep and generally making it quite stressful and worrying that one day our homes may be shaken down.
