New sign needed at bottom of Chalk Pit Lane

Reported via desktop in the Road traffic signs category anonymously at 09:10, Wed 3 March 2021

Sent to Kent County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2583617.

To stop heavy duty lorries and unsuitable works related vehicles turning right up the single track lane from the Hammill Road/Sandwich Road using the lane unnecessarily and squeezing past our fence/hedge only to find it is access only and the vehicles then just turn left to go back down the other side of the hill exiting just where the new estate Hammill Park is. We frequently have huge lorries struggling to get past our house completely unnecessarily as their satnav has obviously brought them our way when they just need to continue their journey along the Hammill Road. No wonder we have near accidents with cyclists and horse riders as the lane is so narrow. These incidents could easily be avoided if a proper road sign was erected at both ends of what was Chalk Pit Lane. We get a lot of walkers too and there is no where to go if a big lorry is coming up the lane.

Updates

  • We continue to get unnecessary traffic driving up from the Hammill Road and then careering past our house on the single track lane, only to drive down the other side. We have numerous large pot holes as a result and far too fast driving as people use it as a race track!
