Overgrown shrubs invading pedestrian space on pavements

Reported via desktop in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 07:17, Tue 23 February 2021

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2565551.

Despite some residents clearing trees and other shrubs overhanging their property onto the pavement, many properties need to be cleared as the obstruction in some cases is excessive. For elderly, partially sighted and those with buggies this is a serious problem.

Updates

  • Still a lot of overgrowth from gardens and green verges, with spring/summer coming the problem will only get worse.

  • Still many properties with overgrowth over pedestrian areas. Grass verges destroyed by heavy vehicles during wet conditions. Very unsightly.

  • To make matters worse we now have council/highways personnel chopping grass verges and roundabouts then blowing the cut grass all over the pavement and roads. That’s the best way of getting blocked drains and weeds growing in the gutters. Why can’t our roads and pavements be properly attended as other countries, especially France, manage to do consistently.
