Leaves covering pavement at foot of Monteagle Lane, west side.

Reported via desktop in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 09:08, Tue 9 February 2021

Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2535092.

The pavement at this point is nearly covered with leaf mould dating from last autumn's leaf-fall. The road and gutters have been swept, but the pavement has been left and is slippery in wet weather. There is some leaf mould coverage on the east side too, but pedestrian traffic moved most of it into the gutters where it was swept up.

Updates

  • Problem is occurring again. This area (south of the roundabout) receives a lot of debris from higher areas to the south; it includes leaf-fall, twigs and mud washed off surfaces. Much of this debris ends up in the gutters and blocks the road drains, causing flooding both on the road and the pavement (the pavement has low-lying areas which don't empty out, so they become ponds in heavy rain}. Water accumulation in the road contributes to the breaking-up of the tarmac, which I have reported separately.

It's probably impossible to stop debris being washed into this area, but it could be mitigated by frequent sweeping of the gutters and pavements, plus clearing of the road drain traps, while leaf-fall is occurring in Autumn.

  • Problem is recurring as the leaves haven't been cleared from the pavement or the gutters. Some of the road drains are now blocked with debris so water runs down to the lowest points, causing flooding on the road and the pavement by the roundabout.
