Dangerous use of junction

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 07:04, Tuesday 12 January 2021

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2473113.

The junction of Keats Drive and Didcot road has been specifically designed to force traffic west onto Didcot road. However, increasing numbers of drivers are choosing to turn right by performing a u-turn around the traffic island causing danger to other road users. Also, there is no access to Keats Drive for east bound traffic, however, drivers are increasingly travelling on the wrong side of the traffic islands and accessing Keats Drive by driving the wrong way down the exit! The traffic islands need to be joined together to eliminate these dangerous tactics.

  • No action or discussion as far as we can see. Another junction the same as this one is being installed on the A4130 between Mendip Heights and Sir Frank Williams Avenue and no doubt it will be misused in the same way as people take the quick option at the expense of other people’s safety. Only safe option for this type of road junction is an traffic island opposite that excludes access from the wrong carriageway. Whomever designs the road layouts must always think of the lazy/arrogant road user.
