Excessive mud on carriageway

Reported via mobile in the Street cleaning category anonymously at 21:46, Fri 20 November 2020 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Cherwell District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2398101.

An excessive about of mud is being deposited on carriageway by vehicles exiting Finmere Quarry. Renders screen washing useless due to amount deposited on windscreen, smearing screen with mud and limits visibility significantly, especially if following a lorry just leaving the site. Deposits continues for approx 1/2 mile down the carriageway.

  • I totally agree with this. This was reported by someone on the 20th November and yet still nothings has been done. I use this road regularly and the mud is getting worse. To an extent now where there is a layer on the road. It feels like you are driving on light snow or ice. If anyone had to stop quick they would have no chance. My biggest question is why is a commercial business being allowed to get away with this? Either someone from Oxfordshire County Council or Cherwell District Council whould go and take a look tomorrow first thing. You will see the issue. You should impose an order on Finmere Quarry that no lorries can leave until the road is completely cleaned. And then make sure that all lorries are cleaned before they leave the site. If this is left any longer, I fear someone will have a nasty acccident especially when the winter arrives in force.

  • OMG, this is already four months old since being reported!!! I finally had some essential travel to get away from the house. Oh, dear to this road thick with mud and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS for at least half a mile on either side of the Finmere Quarry entrance/exit. You can barely make out the actual colour of the road. Bring on those rains, and insurance companies will see claims (at best). It's a death trap. The Finmere Quarry guys sure don't give a dam about the health and safety of those close by. How is it the Environmental Agency hasn't shared this danger with Highways England or perhaps Cherwell Council? They visit often enough. Shocking! How on earth do they manage to get away with mistreating drivers and residents so severely? Is there no law against this abuse??? Must we wait to learn about some poor unsuspecting soul losing their life? Somebody, please do the right thing!
