Parking facing the oncoming traffic on double yellow lines with lights on, dazzling drivers by a pedestrian crossing

Reported via desktop in the Car parking category anonymously at 18:30, Wed 28 October 2020

Sent to Leeds City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2361512.

Outside the McColl's newsagent 64-66 Stainbeck Road, Meanwood, LS7 2PW. The vehicle pulled across the road at the junction just at the traffic lights in order to park close to the shop. In order to do this the driver had to face oncoming traffic, and had their headlights facing approaching drivers which would have dazzled drivers obstructing visibility where I was crossing on a pedestrian crossing. It was dangerous and unnecessary - hence why I am reporting it! I took this photo - The vehicle parked half up on the pavement and half on double yellow lines facing oncoming traffic. The car pulled up facing the wrong way with its lights on making it difficult for drivers to see the traffic lights at the junction. The driver was a short lady, short hair and large frame.

  • I was advised that because an officer had not witnessed this in person, no action would be taken. It was suggested the person may have only stopped there briefly (there is no driver in the vehicle at the time of the photo)- however they parked there for a few minutes. I have since noted numerous vehicles illegally doing the same
