Storm drains along this stretch of road, which is the lowest point are never maintained properly so in heavy rain the road surface is under water as the drains cannot cope. Some years ago a considerable stretch of this road and Winchelsea Road had drainage repairs and improvements carried out but the maintenance is so minimal that channels are blocked and have vegetation growing from them in places. Periodically contractors do remove silt form the storm drain inlets but the underground drainage which carries away the water to the adjacent ditch is never cleared and outlets into the ditch are never kept clear The photographs show the residual water and the level in the storm inlet outside no 44 New Winchelsea Road some four hours after the peak rainfall, at the peak the water was laying at a depth of several inches from approximately no 38 to no 52 spreading half way across the carriageway. In addition the manhole cover next to the storm inlet has not been replaced properly since the last silt removal some months ago and is now siting 15mm above the pavement surface causing a potential trip hazard to pedestrians. The road surface is scarred and there are constant loose stones following the failure of a surface repair carried out some years ago, these stones are thrown up over parked cars by passing traffic which is obviously worsened when water lays on the surface and is sprayed more than halfway up driveways onto parked vehicles

This problem has not even been looked at. I have received e-mail acknowledgement and email update apologising for not having attended. Subsequently reported again direct to Highways Agency when road was flooded across both carriageways and told that as the problem had been reported already no escalation was possible and that the problem would be attended to when they got round to it, there was no way for me to escalate the problem, that every road in the UK under Highways Agency control was currently a danger to the public ! Appalling customer service and appalling disregard of a public danger.
