Road illegally and dangerously narrowed

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 11:13, Wed 14 October 2020

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2340286.

The road just outside the old Lamb pub has been illegally narrowed using mud, bins, rocks and cones. It is hard to see and dangerous - cars are narrowly missing each other, and nearly falling into the hidden ditch on one side of the road. this has also been reported by email to the council but was requested to additionally put it on here.

  • This continues to be a dangerous issue. Branches have now been added to the mud that has been placed on the road, narrowing it to a single lane right next to a bend, and where there is a hidden ditch beside the road.

  • This appears to have got worse. The owner of the old pub is using cones, lumps of rock and his wheelie bin to reduce the width of the road. This is on a blind bend where the road already narrows, also exacerbated by a deep puddle on the other side of the road. An accident waiting to happen.

  • I have witnessed a man building up this mud on the road with sticks and leaves on two separate occasions. There has still been no action on this and it is still dangerous on this bend as a result.

  • The narrowing of this road has now been included in drawings submitted to planning a developer who wants to build houses on the old pub site. When will this be sorted out? Or is it ok to simply narrow roads as you see fit? I'm appalled at the lack of action by the council on this.

  • This road is becoming increasingly dangerous - the overall gradual narrowing and the piling up of garden waste and branches means that the road is constantly wet and covered in rotting materials (I witnessed a man cutting branches off the shrubs opposite the Lamb Pub and laying them into the road to extend the verge). The council need to come and clear back the build up so that the road is back to being the width of two cars to avoid there being a serious accident. SODC you need to look into this especially as there is now a planning application in place for the property.
