Forgotten Utility Installation

Reported in the Roads/highways category by Graham D at 17:28, Monday 21 September 2020

Sent to Edinburgh City Council less than a minute later

On 17 August, the pressure of surcharging drainage water forced the diagonal-split cover off an inspection chamber on Woodhall Road, south side, between Fernielaw Avenue and Woodhall Bank. Scottish Water turned up a couple of days later to surround the manhole with a near-textbook array of cones, barriers & signs, reducing the road to a single file, give/take arrangement. One half of the cover now seems to have disappeared (???) but the brick chamber, frame and surrounding surface look sound. Does it REALLY take 5 weeks, and counting, for a national utility-quango to source and replace a cast iron manhole cover?
