Pavement Cycling and Electric Scooters
Reported in the Footways and Pavement damage category anonymously at 12:15, Fri 18 September 2020
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2300922.
While parents and children are encouraged to walk to work and school, the cyclist and electric scooter riders have taken to the pavements . I do not know what the law is for the electric scooters, but they are a danger to the walking public and bicycles are not allowed anyhow , yet I have seen dozens of times the police ignoring cyclist on the pavement. Bicycles should not be on the pavement . My daughter was nearly run over by a cyclist who happened to have his dog on a leash at the same time , causing even more of a danger , cyclist clearly though he had right of way , like buses and taxis on the road.

6 months later and nothing has changed. Riding on the pavement is still a major problem which poses a danger to pedestrians’ safety. The council should either create a cycle lane for cyclists or ban e-scooters and bikes from riding on the pavement. The police then need to take action and enforce the law right opposite the Thames Valley Police station.

Thank you for your report. However cycling on the footway is a matter for Thames Valley Police since Oxfordshire County Council have no powers to enforce against this.
