Black coach that a man is living in In a lay-by

Reported in the Abandoned vehicles category anonymously at 19:26, Thu 23 July 2020

Sent to Cherwell District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2214073.

This coach arrived just before lockdown. Since then multiple cars and vans have come and go like a scrap yard. All of this guys vehicles are not taxed. Please tell me is it ok to permanently live in a lay-by? If so I might take my caravan to the next lay-by down the road and save myself some rent money

  • The coach is now white and there is a business tow truck parked right up to it surrounded by around 4-5 other vehicles. Looks like they have taken permanent residence there and are running a business from the site to boot! There is now no room for more than one lorry to pull in preventing them from getting a proper rest stop plus the cars parked there are also moved around to all the other laybys in the area so there is likely to be more cars belonging to whomever has taken permanent residence here. They've been there for nearly a year if not more.

  • A mattress has now been dumped near the bottle banks which I can only assume is from this coach. There is also loads of rubbish stacked in the lay-by. I don’t understand why they have been left here for so long. I’m sure that there must be an environmental health issue too because where are they emptying their toilet etc.

  • The coach, car transporter, and three cars arrived March/April 2020 and have been there ever since. As mentioned previously, the coach has changed colour from black to white. One of the cars, sporting a black and yellow vinyl wrap, was abandoned in a hedge the other side of Middleton Stoney for a couple of weeks. It had a Police Aware sticker on the window but somehow ended back in the layby. I assume from all this it is now legal to live in, and run a business from, (presumably car transport), a layby?

  • After 12 months of setting up camp in the layby, a total of 6 vehicles, including a car transporter truck, are now parked there permanently, along with a large pile of rubbish. Why is this allowed?
