The street tree outside 6/8 Pine Avenue has fungus on trunk about 7ft above ground level and bark is falling off in many places. Concerned it is rotting & dying. Can it be removed & new tree planted nearby

As a qualified Arboriculturist I consider just the removal of the dead wood from the Malus tree outside 6/8 Pine Avenue to be an inadequate response. The presence of fungal fruiting bodies indicates that internal decay is already well advanced. Bearing in mind that it is in a public area and cars regularly park under the tree there is an inevitability that the tree will be damaged sooner rather than later & damage cars.
