  • Blocked drain/gullies under plant pot sending water across road into opposite property driveway again. Please sort this problem this is happening weekly whenever it rains.

  • Thank you for your report. We believe the issue may be with a Thames Water surface water sewer. There is a piped ditch that goes into that manhole cover with a 300mm diameter pipe. The water leaves the manhole cover through a smaller 150mm diameter pipe. The smaller pipe cannot cope with the amount of water. Also the surface water sewer may need a clean, this is maintained by Thames Water. The Highways authority has roadside gullies that feed into the Thames Water surface sewer. We the Highways are just responsible for the roadside gullies.

We will contact Thames Water and if necessary arrange a site meeting to try to resolve the issue.

  • Again blocked gullies/drain under stones and pots sending water to pavement and road.

  • The current flow of water in the road is continuing with no resolution....I now have sandbags placed ready for the next rainfall to try and stop the water coming onto my property. Every car that drives past throws water over my frontage and my vehicle that is parked in the driveway. As it’s summer this also keeps me awake at night having to have my bedroom window open and the constant splash of traffic going through the water. This is a week now sine this report and no action to help resolve the water in the road.

  • Thank you for your update .The water is coming from a piped ditched and coming out of a manhole cover with a plant pot on top of it. This pipe ditched is maintain by Thames Water. This connects to the surface water sewer in the road which is also maintained by Thames Water. There seems to be some blockage between the manhole and the surface water sewer.

OCC Highways are only responsible for drains (gullies) on the road and these connect into the Thames Water surface sewer. We understand our drains are working. And the water from the manhole cover is for Thames Water to resolve.

We have contacted Thames Water several times about the issue and asked them to resolve it. We will contact them again.

You may wish to contact them directly, there Telephone number is 0800 316 9800

  • Thank you for your update. Thames Water have acknowledged they have a blockage in their surface water sewer caused by silt. This is causing water to come out of the gully. They were out there yesterday, but were having difficulty doing the work because of parked cars and traffic. They did say they might have to do the work at night.

We will contact them for an update.
