Japanese Knotweed on Council Verges

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 23:10, Sunday 31 May 2020

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later

Untreated Japanese knotweed is springing up around Shoreham on council land edging footpaths - please could this be managed properly especially in the town, residential areas and public walking routes? Please don’t refer the enquirer to Environment Agency again, who did not even reply or rectify when reported previously. It’s on council land and council responsibility to deal with it properly, and prevent further risk of spread to local properties.

Updates

  • The council promptly investigated the plants and they were luckily not a knotweed species, another type of large weed. Some of these have since been trimmed back, but not fully removed.
