Dangerous parking
Reported in the Car parking category anonymously at 14:30, Wed 27 May 2020
Sent to Torbay Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2131306.
The vehicles parking on Marldon Road, Paignton, near the junction of Titchfield Gardens cause major problems for drivers coming out of Titchfield Gardens. There are often large commercial vehicles which make the problem worse as viewing is badly obstructed, traffic on Marldon Road tends to travel too fast and vehicles exiting Titchfield Gardens often have to come out almost to the middle of the road before they can see whether the road is clear. I thought it was illegal for vehicles to park within 10 metres of a junction because viewing is obstructed. Sooner or later I feel there is going to be a serious accident here. In my view I think this is a case for double yellow lines especially as the junction is on a blind bend.

Issues of dangerous parking at junctions need to be reported to the police who have the power to enforce this, the local authority can only enforce restrictions that are marked with signs or lines, such as double yellow lines. If you believe that parking restrictions are needed in this location, that you need to put your request in writing the Councils Highways department, though there is a moratorium on spend at the moment so they will not likely be able to implement any new restrictions, but would be able to keep your request on file should future funding become available.

Apparently nothing anyone can do. Council say not their problem as no yellow lines there. Police say they can’t do anything about it. Always thought the Highway Code was legally enforceable but apparently not! Probably take a fatality or at least a very serious accident on the junction before anything is done!
