Fire hazard: large cage overflowing with cardboard etc.

Reported in the Rubbish (refuse and recycling) category anonymously at 15:31, Thursday 16 April 2020

Sent to Cherwell District Council 4 minutes later

There is a large amount of cardboard and other flammable material piled up here. The large wooden 'cage' on the left has been there for many months. I'm concerned that this is a fire hazard.

  • This was reported to Cherwell DC, who replied "The wooden cage is not Cherwell District Council property so ... this is the responsibility of which business this belongs to.".

I then contacted the Oxfordshire Fire Service. The Station Commander of Kidlington, Bicester & Eynsham Fire Station immediately visited the premises to assess the situation and provided fire safety advice to the store manager. This was on 17 April, but I see that the cage stacked with cardboard is still there - with additional wooden pallets leaning against it.

  • A couple of weeks ago the 'cage' was nearly emptied but since then the flammable waste material has steadily built up again. The problem remains.
