Inconsiderate and bad parking is damaging grass verges.

Reported in the Pavements/footpaths category anonymously at 16:02, Wed 29 January 2020

Sent to Hampshire County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1967564.

Inconsiderate and bad parking is decimating the verges in Broadmere Avenue, there is no consideration for the verges when it comes to ‘the school run’ parking, safety goes out the window as well with mounting the public footpaths to park on the grass verges. I felt I had to report this not only does it infuriate all the residents but sooner or later a child will get hurt and I would feel bad knowing that I could have done something by reporting it to the correct authorities for action. As you can appreciate with the weather we have been having the verges are very easy to damage and they are also very slippery spreading mud everywhere, again another potential safety issue with cars not being able to stop and the added danger of 2 schools and countless children running about.

There are a number of options that I can see would work, 1. Resident parking only. a. The residents look after the verges, not destroy them. 2. Bollards a. Installation of bollards on the verges to stop people parking on them, hence no damage/mud or safety issue. 3. One way. a. Make Broadmere Avenue a one way street, at least that would cut down the safety risk by 50% 4. Permit parking only. a. I know the residents wouldn’t mind paying to park down there to stop the verges being destroyed.

Ideally all of the above would be nice but I understand budget constraints but a few signs for ONE WAY and resident parking only isn’t going to break the bank.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind Regards

Broadmere Resident.
