Yesterday I witnessed a cyclist avoiding a dog off of its lead on the cycleway adjacent to London Road, it would have been something of a non event had it not been for the fact that he hit this overhanging tree growth resulting in being knocked completely off his bike. For several years now this tree has sagged further and further into the cycleway, every time I see a maintenance crew I hope they will do something about it but all they ever do is trim it back a little which is utterly pointless, as soon as we have a strong wind it is blown further back into the path, it needs cutting right back away from the edge of the verge, or back to the main trunk of the tree as it will eventually pull the whole thing down. In addition to this hazard there is a section on the other side of the cycleway further up toward the football ground where dead branches have been cut back but are sticking out rather too far into the cycleway for safety, particularly at night when this cycleway is unlit or at best very poorly lit, it is too high for most bike lights to illuminate it so the first time any cyclist unfamiliar with this stretch of path would know about it would be when they sustained some potentially very nasty injuries, I will get some pictures next time I’m up there if it has not been dealt with in the meantime.
