Collapsing manhole covers

Reported in the Potholes category anonymously at 13:01, Sat 21 December 2019

Sent to Hampshire County Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1900196.

Reported about 12 min TV hss as ago, manholes continue to subside further and now 2” below road level. Will only get worse as the potholes are in direct line of car/truck wheels that keep hitting the tarmac and cracking it further

Updates

  • The problem with many man hole cover issues is that the shouldn’t be sited where wheels go over them all the time, and should be constructed in a way that they don’t collapse under the reload so easily , perhaps with a larger flange. The whole junction was completely resurfaced only and new lights installed a few years ago and more recently the lights were replaced again at which time the subsidence of the pot holes could have been fixed. They have now deteriorated further and the cold weather will only make things worse.
