Very Unclear Speed Reduction. On the 17th of October I left Wolvercote roundabout travelling east on the inside lane as I proceeded along this road(North Way) I noticed a police camera van ,l looked at my speedo ,and noted I was doing 38 miles an hour ,l thought no more about it ,and went on to my destination. Just over a week later I received a notice of intention to prosecute me for ,being over the speed limit .I drove to the the site to see why I had been caught on camera by the police, when I had a good look at the road I noticed a sign part hidden by a tree ,my speed indicators on my car was still showing 40 miles an hour right next to this part hidden sign,I then proceeded to the next roundabout (Cutteslowe) and came back the other way where the sign is perfectly clear for all to see. After reading the letter I found from the police I found it to very intimidating with regard to taking the case to court my family advised to pay the the £100 fine and take three points on my licence, which can ill afford and going to court would for me be a nightmare . It is my opinion this whole matter is unjust ,that sign has been wrongly placed. Please find attached three photos no1 the offending tree no2my speed read outs no3 the sign on the other side of the road. I look forward to hearing your comments. Yours. Thank you for your report. To have travelled to the point where the 'new 30 speed limit in force' sign is located you will have passed an illuminated set of 30mph speed limit signs, the area in question is served by a system of street lighting which means it is automatically subject to a 30mph restriction unless positively signed otherwise, as stated in the Highway Code.
