Children playing ball games and riding bikes in road

Reported anonymously at 21:57, Thu 31 October 2019

Sent to Torbay Borough Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1827180.

Children play football and ride bikes in the road and the corner plot of the bend of Shelly avenue and Barewell road. They cause a nuisance to residents. Windows, roofs get booted with footballs. Footballs have hit moving cars. They have vandalised both bench’s they play with matched and litter the place. They ride their bikes in the road with or without traffic almost like they play chicken with cars it’s very dangerous. They ride their bikes and enter private property. Can a no ball games sign please get put up and something done about kids hanging around here causing a lot of problems. They play and walk all over the grass bank of St Margaret’s school even though there is signs saying not to. They are making local residents here very fed up. They been told and don’t listen. Under section 161 of the Highways Act 1980, if a person plays football or any other game on a highway, to the annoyance of a user of the highway, he is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine.

  • Nothing done. Dreading the summer time when they be hanging around all day untill late at night. Unfortunately a child will have to get hurt for something to be done about this because if it’s like last summer with boys playing chicken with cars on their bikes it’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or worse. If these notices get put up hopefully they will go else where and somewhere more suitable and safer! Don’t say you wasn’t informed Torbay Council when someone gets hurt.

  • The corner plot is a pedestrian area. Booting footballs and riding bikes here is dangerous to passing pedestrians. They kick footballs back and forth to each other from one side of the road to another. Hazard after hazard and causing a lot of annoyance to local residents and people passing by either on foot and road users. Something needs to be done.
