Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 3 minutes later. Council ref: 1815732.
Signpost showing traffic priority over Walton Well Bridge overgrown and sign missing. Sign on Walton Well Rd showing traffic priority on approach to bridge missing. No sign on William Lucy Way to indicate priority on bridge. Lack of clarity over traffic priority causing traffic conflict and vehicles mounting the pavement.
Thank you for your enquiry. This issue has been passed onto the relevant team for investigation.

This report has been closed. However the priority markings were removed when the junction with William Lucy Way was created as the junction is too close to the narrowing to accommodate this type of road layout, with the removal of the Priority Over Oncoming Vehicles being removed a little later later. Unfortunately it would appear that the remaining sign was forgotten probably because it was overgrown.

Re-instate traffic priority signage on Walton Well Bridge. There was no cause to remove the priority or signage over Walton Well Bridge because Rutherway and Walton Well Road were unchanged when the William Lucy Way junction was created and the priority was previously deemed necessary. The junction of William Lucy Way is a ‘give way’ line and it is a traffic violation to turn out of a give way line to cause obstruction to oncoming traffic, regardless of priorities on Walton Well Bridge. Walton Well Road is clearly visible from the junction with William Lucy Way even beyond the junction with Longworth Rd. Giving William Lucy Way a ‘stop’ line and placing an additional sign, indicating the bridge priority, angled to be visible from that junction (or over the road) would help drivers avoid this mistake and make the right of way clear. Other local bridges have priority signage or traffic lights so it is inconsistent for Walton Well Bridge to be an exception.

Sat 16th Nov at 11pm I was forced of the road on Walton Well Bridge to avoid collision by the reckless act of a driver pulling out of William Lucy Way, without even indicating they mounted the pavement to push past oncoming traffic on the bridge. A pedestrian could easily have been hit in this incident. Action must be taken to make drivers stop and look before attempting to cross the bridge before someone gets injured in an 'accident'. I am in touch with the local councillor over this issue.

Thank you for your report. Unfortunately the construction of William Lucy Way means that there is no suitable location to provide the obligatory give way line associated with the requested sign.
