Ground water flooding in front gardens of 71 and 73 Filton Grove

Reported in the Flooding category anonymously at 00:29, Wed 16 October 2019 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bristol City Council 1 minute later

Following any prolonged rainfall ground water comes up through the exposed soil areas in the gardens. This causes the gardens to flood and the flood the pavement outside of the properties. The water will continue to flow for hours after rain has stopped. Wessex water have come to the properties and they believe a ground water pipe from the council owned allotments which runs under 71 Filton Grove may have been blocked and is backing up and the only place to emerge is through the gardens. We are worried about potential subsidence under 69, 71 and 73 Filton Grove if this continues.

  • I live opposite at number 80. My cellar started flooding a few years ago with a couple of inches of water throughout. I did phone Bristol water but never followed it up. Since the work in the road this year I have not noticed the cellar flooding. Obviously if any new work is done I do now want my cellar to start flooding again as there is obviously an ongoing problem

  • Number 73 have been digging out their drains and have found another ground water pipe that appears to connect to the one under number 71 somewhere in the front garden. Once exposed (clay removed from around pipe) the back d up water that can’t escape out the front came out of the joints of the pipe faster than a compressor pump could remove it. Lifting the floorboards in number 73 has shown that the ground water level is now a few inches below the surface. This is going to have a significant impact on the foundations of our homes if not fixed very soon and could become costly to the council. Can I please get an update on the next steps of the investigation ASAP? Thanks Sam (71 Filton Grove)
