Dangerous Road Markings.

Someone has installed dangerous road markings at this junction. The traffic light system which has been put in place at this junction is still not fully operational. Cyclists moving forward from Beckenham Rd to Station Rd are put in danger from vehicles turning left onto Red Lodge Rd as there is limited space in the newly created cycle lane for a number of riders to clear the junction before the lights change to green for vehicles. The ahead/right turn lane on Beckenham Rd at this junction has caused a danger as drivers cross the central lines yards before the the junction to try to get ahead of traffic to move forward onto station Rd. I have had to take evasive action a number of times to avoid a head on collision as drivers have crossed into my lane to get ahead of other traffic. This right lane should be right turn only. There has also been a number of near misses as both lanes of traffic move forward at the same time trying to squeeze into the single lane on Station Rd again putting cyclists at risk of death or life changing injuries. This is not America, there is not enough space on our roads for this manner of junction.

This report has been referred to our Traffic Management Team who are responsible for the way traffic is managed on Bromley's roads; including, but not limited to, implementing new road markings and signage in relation to road safety and parking; walking and cycling improvements, including identifying locations for new cycle racks and installing Vehicle Activated speed signs - however, please note that responsibility for enforcing speed limits rests with the Police.
Where requests are made for changes, our Traffic Management Team will consider all requests but often there is a need for a full investigation, planning and consultation within the local area particularly around proposed new traffic schemes, and any considerations must be balanced with borough-wide priorities. This report is now closed on FixMyStreet and our Traffic Management Team will consider this matter.
