Very messy Road

Reported in the Street cleaning category anonymously at 13:33, Tue 22 March 2011

Sent to Thanet District Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 174995.

Millennium Way off Northwood Road is very dirty and the fencing on both sides of the Road is being vandalised almost nightly last evening their were some gypsies looking and the field and I fear they may be about to set up a camp there. I don,t know who owns the fencing but the whole Road is a mess.

Mrs Sue Becley

  • One bloke with one caravan !!! they wernt gypsies. lol you are silly there has been a man living in a caravan in the location and surrounding area for over a year has he hurt you or caused you any trouble ? i think not.If anything security has been improoved since his arrival.

  • I think ted is a bit of a vagabond living in his caravan? I suggest that Sue Becley calls TDC on 01843-57700 and reports this to environmental health to investigate and the land is probabaly owned and fenced off by either TDC who own the business park or Canterbury christ church university who are responsible for most of the mess with the students living nearby. If the man keeps living in his caravan he will get arrested or prosecuted for various offences.

  • Millennium Way serves as an access Road to the goods yards behind the stores and a thoroughfare to Tesco there is also a walkway that is next to Laura Ashley cars and motorbikes often mount the pavement and drive along the footpath putting pedestrians at risk. I use this road daily. If one looks at the fencing on the left hand side one can see the benefit of CCTV because in front of the first CCTV camera there is no damage however there is a lot of damage to the fencing behind the CCTV. Most of the mess in the road is caused by St George's school kids who go into the field and throw stones and other things at each other on their way home, at weekends the road looks like operation stack with up to 20 HGVs parked up there I don't know if the HGV drivers make a mess I have not seen them doing so I think that by being parked there the HGVs stop a lot of vandalism because the drivers sleep in the lorries and would soon let vandals know if they were breaking things up. The men who were looking into the field got out of a truck with a lot of scrap metal in the back of it NOTHING to do with the caravan that was parked on the side of the road.

  • The man or men in the truck are taking scrap metal for lots of money, they also try to stop you before you go into the tip they see this as an easy way to make money.I have spoken to some of them they are gypsies from east kent they prowl the area daily for scrap. It might be fine to some people but they are breaking so many laws most of all driving ariound with hazardous waste and they must be licensed be advised if they take scrap metal from a house or any waste and tip it the householder will be fined as the gypsies are very hard to trace at an address as they do not pay council tax nor taxes. Suggest you tell tesco TDC and Christ church about the mess and the driving on the pavements.KCC could also help as they can put concrete or heavy duty rubber bollards up on the pavements. I am a retired cop so have first hand knowledge
