Sunken manhole in center of road. Lorries hit it all the time and make loud bangs

The pit hole has been here over a year and I keep complaining to the council. My house is nearly opposite and I can’t have the window open as the lorries hit it and make a very loud noise. It’s in the center of the road. Cars miss it, lorries hit it as they straddle the white line in the narrowing road.
