Safety Barrier Removed

Reported in the Pavements category anonymously at 22:29, Monday 1 July 2019

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. Council ref: 1681122.

A few months ago for some unknown reason galvanised safety barriers which have been in situ for 25+ years were removed all around Southwold with some being replaced with single little wooden vertical posts and some with nothing at all. This is a major safety concern and I have seen two near misses so far where a child has run out into the road near Tesco, Holm Square where there is no safety barrier. I do not wish to see a child injured or killed hence I keep on reporting and OCC keep on closing NFA on fixmystreet. I have liaised with both Cherwell Council and Bicester Town Council who could not understand why OCC would say that they would work on OCC adopted paths / cycleways and have no knowledge at all with both advising that it is OCC responsibility. Can OCC please confirm if / when the barriers will be replaced or does it need a child to be injured or killed first before anything is done. I have had to word more strongly as this is the third report I have done with no action being taken at all on the last two reports I have submitted, Interestingly about 100' further along the path from where one barrier on the road side has been removed is a barrier between two footpaths still in situ so I have just had to add the photo for perusal. If I see anyone removing it I can then challenge them and obtain information on who is removing them.
