Please sync the traffic lights on Gloucester Place / Melcombe Street.
Since February 2019 the timing sequence is: 1 minute 20 seconds – allowing traffic to proceed 10 seconds for the green man – allowing people to cross
The crossing time is not adequate for the high pedestrian flow, which includes people of all ages, sizes, and abilities.
Pedestrian congestion through insufficient capacity is inconvenient and may encourage people to step into the carriageway.
Crossing two directions of a signalised intersection needs a longer clearance time by any pedestrian, compared to crossing only in one traffic direction.

The long traffic lights have not been synced according to pedestrian requirements.
Social information, i.e., how to trust information gained from people surrounding us, is an important topic in the context of human collective phenomena and followership. In the case of road crossing behaviours at signaled crossings, trusting wrong or unreliable information and following someone crossing at the red light without checking the light colour by ourselves (i.e., personal information) leads to an increased risk of accidents and injuries.
Indeed, when crossing the road at a signalised crossing, it is rare for pedestrians to look at the light colour when other pedestrians have already started crossing: they just follow.
