Lane merge confusion

Reported in the Road and Pavement Issues category anonymously at 18:06, Wednesday 19 June 2019 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council 4 minutes later

As traffic crosses the junction from the A212 onto Church Road, there are two lanes at the traffic lights. As traffic crosses to Church Road, which has a single lane, the two lanes are forced to merge together. This causes constant confusion for traffic in the left-hand lane assuming it has right of way - at least once every hour there are horns sounding, sometimes for a great length of time as tempers boil over. My office has overlooked this junction for 12 months now, and in that time I've witnessed 5 accidents caused by this problem, one involving a bus that pulled another vehicle's front bumper off. Not really sure how this can be rectified, but the horns sounding lasts well into the night.

  • This report has been referred to our Traffic Management Team who are responsible for the way traffic is managed on Bromley's roads; including, but not limited to, implementing new road markings and signage in relation to road safety and parking; walking and cycling improvements, including identifying locations for new cycle racks and installing Vehicle Activated speed signs - however, please note that responsibility for enforcing speed limits rests with the Police.

Where requests are made for changes, our Traffic Management Team will consider all requests but often there is a need for a full investigation, planning and consultation within the local area particularly around proposed new traffic schemes, and any considerations must be balanced with borough-wide priorities. This report is now closed on FixMyStreet and our Traffic Management Team will consider this matter.
