Non collection of waste and recyclables.

I am passionate about avoiding waste and the need for recycling. Unfortunately, I live in Whitchurch, Cardiff where Cardiff Council fail miserably in providing waste and recycling facilities.
Almost weekly collections of waste and recyclable materials are missed leaving the un-collected bags and bins in the streets and lanes- shortly to be broken open by animals or distributed by the winds as in the recent storm. Then as the council also fails on street cleaning the rubbish remains for an undetermined time. For a European Capital city (with published recycling targets) Cardiff is a disgrace.
The lane behind my house is now very littered with broken green bags and garden waste from the stuff that was supposed to be collected last Friday. This is a regular occurrence.
I have complained directly to Cardiff Council on numerous occasions about this situation over a period of 2 years with little effect. Just the usual fobbing off of standard answers. Little has been done other than waiting for the next week’s (or even fortnightly) collection.
I will notify my counsellors again.
Each year council taxes are increased yet all I see is a deterioration in the services provided. Several council waste and recycling yards have been closed. For what purpose am I paying council tax? It is hard to see. I don’t want a high profile for Cardiff, I want my bins emptied and to live in a pleasant environment. People like me pay the taxes not visitors. We want the service we pay for.
As a result of non-collection I will now and in future place all my recyclables in the general waste bin and hope that the council will at least collect that – I hope.
A very annoyed and frustrated taxpayer.
