Hi, The surface of Upway Road was ground away by a specialist machine some months ago, leaving a very uneven finish as photo. No resurfacing has been done since. The ruts are really not good for cycling on and the exposed concrete, where the surface is broken, was subject to freeze/thaw action in the cold weather and is bound to deteriorate further. Is there a plan to resurface the whole road, or just the patches that were worked on? Thanks.
Thank you for your enquiry. The Carriageway is a ridged road construction made up with concrete, over the years the concrete formed slabs have moved slightly therefore we have planned off the small edges with our small milling machine which can also retexture the surface, we have been to site and the surface seems fine, we will monitor the carriageway with a view on carrying out maintenance work as and when required which will be mainly patching works at this stage unless funding becomes available.

This is a dangerous state to leave this road in. Riding down the hill on a bicycle is like an obstacle course, avoiding the many rutted areas that have been ground into the road surface. That is while also avoiding the other obstacles, like parked and moving cars. On a cold, wet day, it can feel treacherous riding down Upway Road in its current state.

Thank you for your update. As previously mentioned, this has been inspected and the issues mentioned does not meet our current risk based criteria. We will continue to monitor this on our routine inspections and work will be carried out once funding becomes available.
