Cutting grass verges
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 07:21, Thu 4 April 2019
Sent to East Sussex County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1593590.
Why are the contractors who cut the grass verges not told to pick up all the litter (mainly plastic & glass bottles) BEFORE they start cutting? Instead they either chop up the plastic, including bags etc, or fling it into the roadway. I have complained about this before, but obviously no one bothers to reply, or to correct the grass cutting process.

Contractors are still cutting the grass verges without picking up the litter first. This results in one plastic bag/bottle becoming a hundreds of pieces which are then washed down the drain into the sea where it is then filmed for Blue Planet choking an innocent turtle or albatross chick. Well done.

Whoever is in charge seems incapable of issuing simple instructions to the affect that 'clear all litter/rubbish/bottles/bags BEFORE you start cutting the grass'.

This is not just an issue in this area, it is across the town where there are grass verges. I have never seen litter picked up before grass cutting.

This should be really simple: - 1. Pick-up litter. 2. Cut grass.

Please pass this to those responsible at the council: - 1. Pick litter. 2. Cut grass. Should be simple.

Contractors were cutting grass again last week (do not know why they have to do it so often) and again not bothering to pick-up litter first. I suspect they would say 'not my job', the usual get-out clause.

On-going issue, nothing changes, suspect nobody at the council even cares.

I actually saw 2 contractors picking up the litter for the first time! I will monitor this to see if this was just a 'one off'.
