Puffin crossing not functioning correctly

Reported via Android in the Traffic lights category by David R at 17:19, Thursday 14 February 2019

Not reported to council

A new Puffin crossing was installed on Newton Road some months ago, replacing an existing Zebra crossing.

The problem is that the pedestrian sensors don't seem to work properly, or are misaligned.

For example, a pedestrian presses the button to cross and the red lights come on to acknowledge the request. But after a period of time, the red acknowledgement lights go off again - as if the request had been cancelled. This is the behaviour I'd expect to see if someone had pressed the button and simply walked away.

This problem happens on both sides of the road and is not unique to me, as many other locals have commented to me about the problem.

I can only assume that the sensors are not detecting pedestrians waiting and cancelling the cross request.
