Reported in the Flooding category by Customer Services at 15:59, Wednesday 6 February 2019
Sent to Lincolnshire County Council less than a minute later. Council ref: 2400229.
The Parish Council wishes to ask that urgent action is taken to address the regular build-up of surface water, which occurs directly outside the lychgate for St Matthew’s Church on Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge.
The water causes a regular and unpleasant obstacle to both Church and road users, including people attending weddings and funerals at the Church. The Parish Council believe that the pavement build-out, which extends from the junction with Churchgate to the front of the Church, worsens the flooding issue by funnelling and containing surface water to the front of the Church.
The Parish Council formally requests that the drainage problem is satisfactorily resolved, and that the build-out removed. This would require the seats and street furniture located on the pavement outside the Church to be removed. Even with the pavement build-out in place, the positioning of the furniture is considered to be an obstruction to pedestrians.
It should be noted that complaints have been received of heavy vehicles regularly hitting the build-out on the corner of the junction with Churchgate, demonstrating that this is both a hazard to road users and creates a noise nuisance to residents, particularly when impacts with the kerb occur at night.
