Traffic light time needs extending

The first set of traffic lights as you come off Coventry Road need to be green for a longer period on their own.
As they are linked with the traffic lights that control Avenue Road, they are causing congestion and tailbacks on Coventry Road during even slightly busy periods. Here is the problem: when they turn green, the lights on Avenue Road turn green which means vehicles cannot exit Coventry Road (give way to to right). When they are red, the traffic that was on Avenue Road is now blocking the exit to Coventry Road. Lights turn green and the cycle begins again. If the lights were green for a longer period on their own, this will greatly reduce the traffic and congestion on Coventry Road.

I'm not sure what the signalisation of Coton Arches roundabout was meant to achieve but what it HAS done is turn the roundabout into one almighty mess at rush hour. Its not difficult to see what is causing the problem, the phasing of the lights is not working as I suspect it should, leading to massive queues on the roads to/from Attleborough and on the Coventry Road. I sat for a full 4 light changes yesterday trying to access Coventry Road from the direction of the town. No traffic was leaving in the Attleborough direction, an artic had stopped across the yellow hatched area and even the A444 across the middle couldn't move. I live in Shepperton Street and access to/from this street is now extremely difficult and downright dangerous as to get out you have to either rely on the goodwill of drivers who have probably been sitting in traffic for upwards of 15 minutes or pull out to turn right through a solid line of cars with NO visibility whatsoever from the left from where cars are racing to get away from the roundabout. On Wednesday I left home at around 6.30pm to go to Coventry and the queue on Cov Road went back as far as Hill Top post office, roughly a half-mile queue. Is this what was intended? The roundabout used to get busy at times before the signalisation now it is total gridlock every day. The emergency services will really struggle should they need to get across to the George Eliot as there is simply no way of bypassing or getting around the roundabout. Please, don't just take my word for it, send a 'traffic engineer' down at any time between 8.15 am and 9.30 am or between 4.30pm and 6.30pm and you will see what I mean. Didn't anyone carry out a traffic flow survey before the work started? Traffic comes down the Cov road at rush hour at a rate of about 1 car every 2 seconds - about 2 cars per minute are able to get across the roundabout.

County Councils Officers are monitoring the operation of the new Coton Arches signalised scheme and will continue to do so during the peak hours this week to ensure that the queue lengths and delays are minimised.
