Treacherous ice on cycle path
Reported via Android in the Ice/Snow category by Tony Brett at 09:06, Tue 29 January 2019
Sent to Oxford City Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1526444.
My partner and someone else both slid off their bikes this morning on this appalling ice on the cycle path between Bartlemas Close and Southfield Road on Cowley a road, causing personal injury and smashing a bike helmet. The area is always wet and never gritted. I'm not sure if the wetness is runoff from the hill and allotments behind or a leak but it collects because the pavement is so badly deformed. It says wet for weeks after rain.
Please give this urgent attention before any more accidents happen. They could be life changing or life ending if someone slides into the path of a bus.

I saw Oxford Direct Services out and about to grit this area just after 9am today. They had already gritted Barracks Lane from Bartlemas Close right up past Oxford Spires Academy.
Thames water are also going to look at the water issue.

Oxford Direct Services staff have been out to spot grit locations where ice had persisted.
Unfortunately we do not hand grit any cycle ways, foot ways or bridges as part of our routine gritting routes. However, we will undertake reactive work on a case by case basis when required.
Please continue to take care in this area until the Thames Water issue is resolved.

The fundamental problem is the mess the pavement is in. It was extended a few years back so is now concave and collects water and mud. That of course makes ice when it gets cold.

Now completely re-laid and re-surfaced. Thank you very much to whoever did it!
