Large and heavy vehicles using town centre as a rat-run
Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 11:56, Wed 23 January 2019
Sent to Norfolk County Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1521256.
Roadworks, with traffic lights, on the A1122 Downham Market bypass are increasing the volume of traffic through the town centre.
Cars are one thing, but there are now significant numbers of large and heavy vehicles using Railway Road, Bridge Street , the High Street and Priory Road, (all in the one way system), as a rat run to avoid the roadworks. Lorries are included in the number, but most prolific are the school busses - NOT service busses, (when empty and when laden), that have no business being in the town centre as there are no schools in that area.
Please can you arrange better (temporary) signage and enforcement, during the road works, to keep these vehicles out of the town centre and on the A1122 / A10 bypass route that they should be using.
There is damage occurring to the kerbstones in the town where these vehicles mount the kerb to pass parked vehicles or to navigate the junction at the top of Bridge Street.
Thanks,

Dear NCC.
How has it been resolved?
As a regular user of the town centre I have seen no change at all.
I await your information.
