Collapsing lateral drain outside No. 3
Reported in the Road and Pavement Issues category anonymously at 10:01, Tue 22 January 2019 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council 4 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 1520085.
The drain consists of a number of 1 metre box sections with metal grid covers. Some box sections are breaking down which, with the passage of vehicular traffic, causes the grids to fall into the drain, this is particularly apparent after refuse collections.

Thank you for your communication. The problem has not been rectified and I can only assume that, by replacing the drain grid that had fallen into the drain it was thought that it had. As you will see from the above photographs one side of the drain has broken away and,as this supports the grid, the only proper and safe way of rectifying the problem is to replace the drain box section and grid. The grid has become deformed by traffic and now no longer lies flat.

This issue was originally notified to you by Mr Colin Wadeson on 22/1/19 and you reported it as fixed on 7/2/19. Unfortunately the problem almost immediately recurred. The grid falls into the supporting box section because the side walls of the box sections are broken in certain places and cannot support the weight of vehicles driving over it. The box sections need to be repaired or replaced, not just the grids.

It is now over 2 months since first 1 reported this problem and nothing has happened. The map on which problems are indicated shows the problem as being resolved, . hopefully this is an error rather than a belief that all is well.

Re your latest communication. I can not believe that anybody can log this problem as fixed when the drain is in the state shown in the above photographs. Not only has the drain collapsed but the adjoining paviours are now becoming displaced. There has been no action on this since my report on 7 February. It will not be long before the adjacent box sections in the drain become damaged.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the incorrect updates previously applied to your enquiry. I have looked at the adoption plans for St Benjamins Drive as part of looking into your additional comments chasing these works and unfortunately discovered that this area was not adopted and therefore is not maintained by LBB, so the Highway Inspector should not have raised any works at this location. This means we are not responsible for the repair of this drain and will not be taking any further action. Again please accept my apologies for any delay this may have caused to the private owners making repairs, yours sincerely Bromley Highway Area Manager.
