  • By283 has persistently been used as an access to farm land owned by Chevening Estates by criminals to fly tip large quantities of waste on their land and on the highway. This has cost the land owner and Bromley Council many thousands of pounds to clear and has caused much damage to the environment. The post has been erected by and paid for by the Reniks Stud, whose busines was badly affected by fly tipping, and with the cooperation of the land owner and Bromley Council. The route is accessible by all who have legitimate business to use the route as the post is removable. Regretably with fly-tipping being so prevalent extraordinary measures have to be taken to combat this crime. To date no other complaints have been received.

  • Whilst I understand the reasons behind installing the post. It is an illegal obstruction on a right of way and it’s removal needs to be enforced

  • As stated above post has been erected with the cooperation of the land owner and Bromley Council to safeguard the area from the illegal act of flytipping. There is no intention to arrange it's removal.

  • Can you therefore advise me how local carriage drivers might be made aware of this obstruction and perhaps a sign or notice at either end of the road as to how they might obtain a copy of the key so they might continue to use the road. I use this road myself and so will require a copy.

  • As above, the post was installed by Reniks Stud; if you wish to make use of this route for legitimate business you would need to engage with them to procure a key. The post was installed to prevent on-going and repetitive issues with fly-tipping, and to date this has been effective.

  • As this is a Byway, carriage drivers are legitimite users who should be able to access this Byway. Can you therefore advise me how local carriage drivers might be made aware of this obstruction and perhaps a sign or notice at either end of the road as to how they might obtain a copy of the key so they might continue to use the road. I use this road myself and so will require a copy. Can you please provide the contact details for Reniks Stud and provide a notice on or near the post so that legitimate users can gain a key for access. The Fly tipping may have been stopped but so have legitimate users of the Byway.

Further to potential obstruction to carriage users, any concerned parties will likewise be invited to report via the Council's systems where they will be directed to Reniks Stud for further details regarding access issues.
