Came off my bike here needlessly, and fractured foot. Two main factors: 1. degredation in surface quality just before pinchpoint. 2. Pinchpoint exacerbated by bollards either side set in about 6". I know this is partly a design issue because: 1. The gentleman who helped me up told me I was the third person he'd seen do it in 6 months. 2. The surface degredation on a junction is an issue for the same reason we apply anti-skid surfaces to junctions near emergency vehicle hot-spots. Cyclicts may not have the velocity of a motor vehicle (most of the time). But they do have reduced contact area and reaction force leading to increased safe stopping distances this is especially pertinent at junctions and areas with decreased visibility . Recommended Actions: 1. Replace two bollards either side of cycle path with one in middle this has the effect of separtaing streams of cycle traffic rather than pusing them together. whilst still preventing unauthorised vehicular traffic. 2. Replace the bollard to one of a more absorbing material this will reduce the severity of injury when things do go wrong. 3. Resurface or do more regular roadsweeping or both of junction leaf litter has a terrible coefficient of friction just ask network rail.
