Dangerous steps in new layout

Reported in the Road and Pavement Issues category anonymously at 16:06, Fri 12 October 2018 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bromley Council 4 minutes later

The new steps formed at the bus stop outside Miso Noodle Bar contravene Building Regulations. The change in level is not defined with any markings. Both levels are same colour and virtually invisible. Many people have tripped down this after leaving the bus. The yellow ribbed paving is supposed to give ADVANCE warning and be 400mm away from the step - not form part of the step itself. As a new installation, this work is negligent in ignoring the regulations. As a new installation where there were no steps before, people will not be expecting a change in level. Bromley need to correct this asap to avoid accident liability.

  • When is this going to be sorted out. Another person fell yesterday (5th December) due to this unmarked step. Are we going to wait till there is a fatality? This was reported as long ago as October!

  • Please fix this now. A temporary barrier to prevent falls has been removed. If no action taken I will report the council to health and safety executive.

  • The location is the site of a new bus shelter. We are in discussion with TfL regarding the installation date but will maintain the temporary barriers in the meantime. Programme dates will be provided once clarified.

  • By your own admission, this problem is still unresolved. Please do NOT mark it as fixed. In addition, the tactile paving has not been set back at the upper level and forms the edge of each step. This contravenes the regulations and remains dangerous to users, especially those with impaired vision.
