Vehicle damage caused by uneven road surface

Reported in the Potholes category by Ian Malcolm at 17:14, Wed 10 October 2018

Sent to Edinburgh City Council less than a minute later

Turning, southbound, from Liberton Road onto Gilmerton Road the rough surface caused a GPS unit to be dislodged from a manufacturer-supplied mount on my bike (photo 1). The unit fell on the road. The unit (photo 2) was subsequently run over and damaged by a car. I wish to claim the cost of a replacement unit. The current replacement cost is £449.99 (see https://buy.garmin.com/ en-GB/ GB/ p/ 75226).

  • I eventually got a response from the council, after emailing the chief executive. They seemed to wash their hands of the matter and passed the buck to their claim handlers. With such a complete lack of interest (or in modern parlance "ownership") in the problem, it's no wonder the roads are not getting fixed.
