Inadequate provision of a refuge island

Reported in the Obstruction or hazard on road category anonymously at 13:30, Tue 25 September 2018

Sent to Warwickshire County Council 5 minutes later

On the Wembrook trail/NCN521, crossing Marston Lane.

The 'refuge island' sited at this location encourages a two-stage crossing, however its size is inadequate for a cyclist to wait safely with a bicycle. As demonstrated in the photographs, part of the cycle will remain in the carriageway. Whilst this can be handled by a lone person crossing by waiting with the cycle at an angle, this is not possible when multiple persons are crossing at the same time.

Whilst I understand this island also forms part of the traffic calming scheme present at this location, a better solution would be to remove the island entirely and narrow the carriageway at this location (i.e., bring the footpath eastwards), with carriageway space given for only one direction of traffic at a time (priority in one direction, give way at the other). This solution would also resolve the sight lines issue also reported at this location
