  • Scrapmen are doing this all over the country! I've even seen a transit van with a large square hole cut into the nearside floor, inside the van was a welded in support and steel arm with a chain attached!

    Driver pulls up near a grate and with the aid of the hidden thief he guides the driver until the grate can be seen directly through the hole, thief leans through hole and attaches chain & hook to grate, then using the makeshift 'crane' he levers out the grate and then it is placed inside the van, onto the next grate and so on!!

    No one is any wiser as to what is happening because everything is hidden out of sight! I only knew of this van because they was emptying it into a twin wheel heavy duty tipper and clearly did not give a damn who say what they was doing in the street.
