Chichester College Lane junction Spitalfield Lane flooding

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 13:54, Tue 11 September 2018

Sent to West Sussex County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 1409975.

10 August 2018 - torrential rain around 4.30PM. I drove down College Lane towards Spitalfield Lane, water was already on the road but maybe only 5-10 cm when I drove through not knowing that in the middle there is a dip where the water is deeper and cannot drain. My engine stalled and my vehicle was stranded. We had to leave the car as within minutes the water was knee-deep. Two more cars broke down. It took three hours until the road was drained again. I am thinking of suing Chichester as locals told me that this happens often. No police, no one to help me directing the traffic. Fortunately there were some nice people who helped. If we had not stopped cars from going through this area, there would have been many more cars effected. My car is a write-off and I lost a lot of money, not to forget the grief and the trouble I had to go through.

  • I have claimed for compensation and Chichester council have referred the issue to their legal team. I am not interested in the money as such but I want something to change. They told me that there is no problem but it was very obvious that there was and people from this area told me that this has beenan issue.
